Founder's Journey
TiE-Atlantic to TiE-Boston Journey
March 14, 2022
My journey with TiE Boston has been transformational from Entrepreneur /Inventor/ Innovator to a Professor, Executive in residence at a local university (Suffolk), an Author, an Angel Investor (TiE Boston and outside) and a Life Coach to corporations.
In 1996/1997 with involvement and support from TiE West Coast, a small group (10-12) of us founders took the initiative and TiE-Boston (neé TiE-Atlantic) was born. As a board member, I did fundraising for 3-4 years for the TiE annual conferences. We formed SIGs (Special Interest Groups) for different interests of the entrepreneurs.
Slowly TiE Boston expanded beyond just the Indian community and started attracting other businesses, enterprises as well as people from the academic field. In 2005 I joined Suffolk University's Boston faculty and we started creating more links with the local universities. As a result, students participating in the TYE competition will present their pitches at Suffolk in May 2022 and I will serve as a judge.
Taking a different approach, we introduced the concept of “MOM” (Managing of Mind) and “Art of Laughter (Laughter without Jokes) ” to open up the mind to make it more receptive to new ideas. I presented this first at TiE's annual conference and now it is a part of the ScaleUp cohort curriculum. Have also presented this at TYE sessions and more recently at TiE-Global ED’s meeting in March 2022.
